Book Review: A Tortured Soul
By L.A. Detwiler
Crystal Connor, the abused and forgotten wife of Richard Connor is giving birth to Richard's child however, when the baby is born it isn't breath. Crystal extremely upset wants their child to be baptized before being buried. Asking her husband he takes the stillborn child and tosses it into the forest like trash then proceeds to beat her.
The next day Crystal wakes to find that Richard has disappeared, not uncommon but during the next couple days he has not returned nor had contact with anyone.
Questions start to arise: what has happened to Richard? where he is? why hasn't he come home? and what secrets are being hidden in the Connor house?
A Tortured Soul is a crazy ride of intense feelings, Crystal the narrator of the novel has endured mental and physical abuse her whole life. Starting with her childhood, she grew up in a abusive religious household where physical punishment was a daily occurrence. After Crystal's first time with Richard she becomes pregnant and forced into marriage. However, Richard is just as cruel as her father, maybe even worse. After the loss of their first child then becoming pregnant again their second child is born stillborn causing more physical and emotional torture for Crystal.
Crystal's narrative is a twisted story that makes the read feel emotions most don't want to feel. The writing was very well done and i personally wanted to keep reading to see what would happen even though the subject was very difficult to read.
Overall, i would give this novel a ⭐⭐⭐ review, i found some chapters repeated Crystal's feelings which i felt wasn't needed however, i did think the story was well written and really makes the reader feel for Crystal and her situation.
Thank you Netgalley and L.A. Detwiler for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
